Job Interviews

February 20th, 2008

I have been searching for jobs again. Today I had an interview where I used to work. I want to go back, but within a different role. So we’ll see about that one. Also, I went to an agency and had an interview there. Its so depressing as there doesn’t seem to be any jobs in buying which is what I want to do. I get so disheartened because I feel like I am constantly searching for jobs and not getting any luck. I am still temping in Acton, but its so far out of zone 1. It takes me two hours of travel each day (there and back). Oh well :-( Hopefully I will find something great soon…

1 Girl, 1 Phone charger, 3 Homes

February 17th, 2008

It’s sooooo cold today! I cant believe it’s so cold and it’s the weekend. Its really unfortunate because it has been stopping me from going out. When i do go out, i get so chilly, that i have to go back home again. I have stayed at my boyfriends house this weekend. I live here half the week and at my house the other half of the week. And then sometimes I go and visit my parents in Brighton. It can get a bit annoying sometimes because I always forget my phone charger or forget to bring fresh clothes! Today I bought a new phone charger so that solves that problem for a while - until I get a new phone at least….

I went to the beauty that is Edgware Road today. Now, when I first moved to London, this road used to scare the crap out of me! It’s quite scary and you feel like you have to hold on to your belongings as there are loads of Gypsies trying to get cash out of you (including small children). I’m used to it now though, I don’t get scared anymore. I quite like it, there are loads of amazing restaurants and you can always smell shisha and tasty chicken kebabs. And there’s this one guy who sells “Magic Corn”, I’m not sure why its magic, but its all good! Anyway, so the point was, I went to Edgware Road and bought myself a new phone charger at the knockdown price of a tenner! Yay! They are selling the same chargers for £30 in the carphone warehouse. Mine is probably nicked or something, but at least it works and I saved myself £20!

So now I have two phone chargers. One here and one at my house…Lucky for me that I have two pairs of GHD hair straighteners too. Honestly, I cant go out if I haven’t straightened my hair, it looks soooooo horrible!

Saturday at Covent Garden

February 16th, 2008

Today I went to Covent Garden. We got the bus down there and kind of wished we hadn’t. There were a group of teenage girls upstairs at the back of the bus (one row behind me) and they were giving out a load of attitude. All of them were so noisy. The woman behind me kept telling them to ssshhhhush, and then one guy asked them when they were getting of the bus. They were so rude! I hate teenage kids sometimes, they all seem to have the same attitude problem up here in london. I’m sure when I was a kid I was much better behaved. I know I sound like an old person ranting, but they should just start acting their age!

The Hosital ClubSo Covent Garden was really busy. I was going to get my palm read or a tarot reading but the lady was busy. Its probably a good thing though cos I am always really scared that if I ever have a tarot reading, the death card might come up!!! And i’m the kind of person that will worry I was going to die because of it! We went to a place called the Hospital. Its a private members club in nr Covent Garden. It’s really nice inside with a relaxed atmosphere and quite qaint. Definately would recommend it, it has amazing food and service.

Wow, I seem to be hungry all the time at the moment. I think its because it has been so cold the last few days! I’ll just blame it on the change of weather. How strange. I even feel hungry now and its 1730, it’s not even dinner time!

It’s the Weekend!

February 16th, 2008

Hooray for the Weekend. It’s 1130 and I am still in bed. I am trying to figure out what fun things I can do today. The usual Saturday morning cooking programmes are on the tele and they are making me hungry! They are cooking banoffee pie, yum!

I wonder what the tubes are like today. I hate the fact they close them at the weekends so it makes it ten times worse trying to get anywhere. And that makes people more stressed than they already are! Well, to be honest I have no idea where I will be going today so I guess it doesn’t matter.

Quaglino’s

February 15th, 2008

Last night was really lovely. I went for dinner at a restaurant called Quaglino’s. They had a special Valentines day menu. It’s one of those restaurants where you order the food and then wonder where the chips are! Having said that, they did bring out some side dishes of new potatoes and “winter vegetables”. I had a red pepper and goats cheese tartlet to start. The cheese was really creamy and tasty and i had rocket side salad with an aged balsamic dressing with olives. WOW. Was a bit disappointed with the mains options. There was no good fish on the menu… or chicken. So I had lamb rump, which was very tasty but also quite fatty. For dessert, me and my boyfriend shared the chocolate plate. It wasn’t that chocolatey but was still nice!

I drank Rose champagne and felt really special because it was £70 a bottle! I really love Valentines Day, I cant believe it only happens once a year!!!! No fair!

Valentines Day

February 12th, 2008

Well, only two days to go till Thursday - Valentines Day… But what is Valentines Day all about? The one day a year where girlfriends get treated and taken out for dinner, flowers and chocolates bought for them. Now, i’m not complaining BUT what exactly do guys get out of it? A card? What the hell do you buy a guy for Valentines Day? I am finding myself trapped in this very predicament. Maybe guys dont want presents and just want to be given (in the words of Borat) ’sexy time’. I think maybe we should rename Valentines Day to Girlfriend Day. A bit like Mothers Day or Fathers Day but where the girlfriend/wife gets treated to nice things.

Valentines Day is great if your in a relationship. However, it must be pretty boring if your not. It’s not very nice to go out on Valentines Day if your single (and want to find yourself a partner). It’s almost like everyone else is rubbing it in your face!

I’m so lucky to have such a great boyfriend myself, and I can’t wait to be treated on Thursday!

Temp Job

February 12th, 2008

Hiiii! Well, yesterday I started my temp job. I’m temping as a buyers admin assistant within watches. I quite like temping because you know that the job is not going to be forever, so you feel a bit of freedom in that you know your not going to be tied down to something. You can leave whenever you like.

It’s always a bit scary starting a new job. I think the most important thing for me when I start a new job is whether I like the people. If I dont like the people then I may as well forget it! There is always an abundance of feeling’s on your first day. I tend to keep quiet at first and try to take everything in and work out what the people are like. And that’s what is great about temping. If you don’t like the people or the job, then you can leave whenever you want! Hurrah!

This is one of the funniest videos on you tube. It makes me laugh every time I see it!

London Markets

February 10th, 2008

According to www.londontourist.org, Spitalfields Market, Camden Market and Portobello Market are the top three markets to visit in London. I have had the chance to visit all three (after visiting Spitalfields market for the first time today) and have to say that Camden market is definately my favourite. However, news is today that part of Camden market has burnt down. Lets hope it’s not too severe.

Camden MarketCamden Market

Camden Market is a great place to visit. It’s easily reachable by tube or bus and lies to the north of Regents Park. It’s usually fairly busy but has a great buzzing atmosphere with lots to see and do. There are a number of markets located within Camden. I think its best to head up to the Camden lock market and walk your way through the stalls. You can find some great little purchases in and around the markets at knockdown prices. Stalls include jewelry, wood carvings, clothes and tea! (too name but a few). There is also a large food area which tends to house mostly chinese food, it makes my mouth water every time I walk past.

There are a good choice of bars which are popular with celebrities (such as Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty) and good for a relax when your feet are aching from the long walk round Camden town! The market is currently being expanded to the north, hopefully this wont make it too commercialised. It would be a shame if the expansion took away the bohemian/edgy feel that Camden is known for.

Portobello Road Market

Portobello RoadLocated very close to notting hill tube is Portobello road market. Portobello Market is varied and has a wide range of things to buy. There are a lot of antique/bric a brac shops and as you walk deeper into the market, you will start to find clothes, jewelry and fresh fruit and veg.

There are also some interesting food shops, I came across one last week which sold deep fried dough things that looked a bit like donuts but were long and thin! The were obviously popular because the queue was fairly long, it it hadn’t had been so long I would have tried them myself! Interesting, to say the least….

Spitalfields MarketSpitalfields Market

Well, I wasn’t too impressed with Spitalfields market. Maybe it’s a matter of taste, but there wasn’t much of a feel to the place. There seemed to be a lot of restaurants which play on the “natural organic food” branding but at the same time charge at extortianate prices.

The old market is fairly small and is located indoors. There wasn’t much to look at when it came to buying small things that you dont really need! The main focus was on girls clothes and most of the stalls seemed to house similar things. It was incredibly busy, but that was probably my fault for visiting on a Sunday!

post a comment  if you recommend any other London Markets!

Tasty Cupcakes

February 10th, 2008

CupcakesWow, if your looking for great homemade cupcakes, try out Candy Cakes in covent garden. Take a look at their amazing range of cupcakes…

They also sell them at Cest Ici which is located in Kingly Court near Carnaby Street. I really recommend this restaurant, it has really great food and a friendly atmosphere. It has tables and chairs out in the courtyard, but is also a restaurant with a full bar inside. I went there for lunch the other day and tried their chicken pitta’s. The food was really tasty and also quite pricey, but a good treat!
