Valentines Day

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Well, only two days to go till Thursday - Valentines Day… But what is Valentines Day all about? The one day a year where girlfriends get treated and taken out for dinner, flowers and chocolates bought for them. Now, i’m not complaining BUT what exactly do guys get out of it? A card? What the hell do you buy a guy for Valentines Day? I am finding myself trapped in this very predicament. Maybe guys dont want presents and just want to be given (in the words of Borat) ’sexy time’. I think maybe we should rename Valentines Day to Girlfriend Day. A bit like Mothers Day or Fathers Day but where the girlfriend/wife gets treated to nice things.

Valentines Day is great if your in a relationship. However, it must be pretty boring if your not. It’s not very nice to go out on Valentines Day if your single (and want to find yourself a partner). It’s almost like everyone else is rubbing it in your face!

I’m so lucky to have such a great boyfriend myself, and I can’t wait to be treated on Thursday!

Temp Job

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Hiiii! Well, yesterday I started my temp job. I’m temping as a buyers admin assistant within watches. I quite like temping because you know that the job is not going to be forever, so you feel a bit of freedom in that you know your not going to be tied down to something. You can leave whenever you like.

It’s always a bit scary starting a new job. I think the most important thing for me when I start a new job is whether I like the people. If I dont like the people then I may as well forget it! There is always an abundance of feeling’s on your first day. I tend to keep quiet at first and try to take everything in and work out what the people are like. And that’s what is great about temping. If you don’t like the people or the job, then you can leave whenever you want! Hurrah!

London Markets

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

According to www.londontourist.org, Spitalfields Market, Camden Market and Portobello Market are the top three markets to visit in London. I have had the chance to visit all three (after visiting Spitalfields market for the first time today) and have to say that Camden market is definately my favourite. However, news is today that part of Camden market has burnt down. Lets hope it’s not too severe.

Camden MarketCamden Market

Camden Market is a great place to visit. It’s easily reachable by tube or bus and lies to the north of Regents Park. It’s usually fairly busy but has a great buzzing atmosphere with lots to see and do. There are a number of markets located within Camden. I think its best to head up to the Camden lock market and walk your way through the stalls. You can find some great little purchases in and around the markets at knockdown prices. Stalls include jewelry, wood carvings, clothes and tea! (too name but a few). There is also a large food area which tends to house mostly chinese food, it makes my mouth water every time I walk past.

There are a good choice of bars which are popular with celebrities (such as Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty) and good for a relax when your feet are aching from the long walk round Camden town! The market is currently being expanded to the north, hopefully this wont make it too commercialised. It would be a shame if the expansion took away the bohemian/edgy feel that Camden is known for.

Portobello Road Market

Portobello RoadLocated very close to notting hill tube is Portobello road market. Portobello Market is varied and has a wide range of things to buy. There are a lot of antique/bric a brac shops and as you walk deeper into the market, you will start to find clothes, jewelry and fresh fruit and veg.

There are also some interesting food shops, I came across one last week which sold deep fried dough things that looked a bit like donuts but were long and thin! The were obviously popular because the queue was fairly long, it it hadn’t had been so long I would have tried them myself! Interesting, to say the least….

Spitalfields MarketSpitalfields Market

Well, I wasn’t too impressed with Spitalfields market. Maybe it’s a matter of taste, but there wasn’t much of a feel to the place. There seemed to be a lot of restaurants which play on the “natural organic food” branding but at the same time charge at extortianate prices.

The old market is fairly small and is located indoors. There wasn’t much to look at when it came to buying small things that you dont really need! The main focus was on girls clothes and most of the stalls seemed to house similar things. It was incredibly busy, but that was probably my fault for visiting on a Sunday!

post a comment  if you recommend any other London Markets!

Tasty Cupcakes

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

CupcakesWow, if your looking for great homemade cupcakes, try out Candy Cakes in covent garden. Take a look at their amazing range of cupcakes…

They also sell them at Cest Ici which is located in Kingly Court near Carnaby Street. I really recommend this restaurant, it has really great food and a friendly atmosphere. It has tables and chairs out in the courtyard, but is also a restaurant with a full bar inside. I went there for lunch the other day and tried their chicken pitta’s. The food was really tasty and also quite pricey, but a good treat!

Where are all the jobs!

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

What’s going on? I have been searching for a job for two weeks now and the best that the agency could come up with is a temporary job in central Acton. Yes, Acton! For a girl who lives right bang in the middle of Zone 1, travelling to Acton is not ideal.

Does anyone have a job they really love? I had been working in merchandising for the past year, then I left the company to pursue a career in buying. However, now i’m thinking what happens if I dont like buying either? I think a lot of people aren’t sure what job they want in life and your probably really lucky if you wake up each morning and are really excited about going into work.

Who would have thought it so difficult to find a job in london!

How to be the perfect girlfriend

This is a funny video I found on VideoJug about how to be the perfect girlfriend! I love VideoJug, it’s one of the most fun sites to visit on the Web. It has everything from how to apply make-up properly to making pizzas from scratch!

How To Be The Perfect Girlfriend

this is my first post

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

So, I am a 23 year old girl living in London. I have lived here for about four months now, I’m from the south coast and I have moved here in the hope for some kind of career and lots of fun along the way! I’m very lucky to be living in Zone 1 with a cheapish rent. I live with 4 other girls and we get along just fine.

I’m job hunting at the moment, have just quit my job as an assistant merchandiser in a retail head office. So I’m broke and unemployed but that wont stop me from having fun! In fact, I am nursing a hangover today and I am confined to my boyfriends bed.
