Girl hates free London Internet

Girl | General | Tuesday, 08 April 2008

I dont have the internet in my house, which can sometimes be a bit annoying, but recently one of the four girls that i live with in London has moved out. I have since moved to her room (it’s a bit bigger than my old room) so i got the laptop out and tried to connect to a network. BT openzone is available so i tried to connect to that, but it doesnt seem to be working. And now, I think i have connected to some random network but it keeps cutting me off.

I should really think about buying my own internet. But for a 23 year old girl in london on not such a great wage - i think i will just FREEBIE it for now…

Snowy Sunday!

Girl | General, London | Sunday, 06 April 2008

I cannot believe it is snowing today! It’s so weird that yesterday was hot and today there is snow. I bought the book ‘6 degrees’ about the effect global warming is having on the environment/weather. I haven’t read it yet but I will do soon as I think it will be quite interesting.

Luckily the tube strike is off too. It was meant to start today and end on Wednesday. But it has been called off. I don’t normally travel around London on the tube, I’m quite a lucky girl as I live a 10 min walk away from work so i don’t use the tube that often. i’m also quite central so tend to walk everywhere that i am going!

GIRL IN LONDON

Girl | Food, General, London | Friday, 04 April 2008

Anyone doing anything fun tonight? It’s Friday and I feel like I should be going out somewhere. For a girl in london, I am making a poor effort tonight. That’s mostly because I am ill with a cold so I can’t go out with workmates because I didn’t go to work.

I’m staying in with my boyfriend tonight. He has been away at his mum’s house in the countryside for the last few days and tonight he is cooking me a couq au van (whatever that is). I think its like a massive stew. Yay, think i would rather be a girl in london who stays inside the house tonight. There’s plenty of other nights i can go out, and its not every day that i get dinner cooked for me. hooray.

My Job

Girl | General, Jobs | Friday, 04 April 2008

Well, I’m off sick today, I have a cold. Everyone in my department has had it already and now me too! oh well. Thought I would talk a bit about my exciting job while i’m on here as i have nothing else to write about.

Earlier on I typed in buyers associate into google and there isnt many website’s which tell you about the job. So I thought I would talk about my role in case anyone is interested to go into buying as a career. I worked in fashion buying for four weeks and decided it wasn’t for me. It’s a bit too fast paced and you don’t get to spend time with the product because the clothes are always in and out and thats it. Also, you will find that with fashion, the designers have a big input into what you should be buying. Therefore, if your quite creative, it’s a bit frustrating.

I have moved into homeware buying and I have started off as a buyers associate. i have had quite a lot of retail experience coming from a merchandising background so I’m finding it quite easy to make the transition. I am really enjoying being a buying associate so far and each day is different. In short, no day is the same as the last. But the base of the role is that the suppliers will send samples in to you. You decide whether you like the sample and what you want changed. Then you will have a meeting with the supplier to discuss changes, then a red/silver/green (whatever you want to call it) will be sent with all the changes made. This is a pre production sample. Once this is approved, a gold seal will be sent. (this is a production sample). Its a really fun and exciting job and every girls dream to be buying stuff for a living!
